MTN Ranked Nigeria’s Best Performing Mobile Network for 2025 Based on Independent Speed & Latency Testing

In a comprehensive industry evaluation of mobile network performance across Nigeria in 2025, MTN Nigeria has emerged as the best performing mobile network — surpassing major rivals Airtel and Globacom (Glo) in independent speed, latency, and overall quality tests conducted by respected analytics platforms.

According to the nPerf Barometer of Mobile Internet Connections, which aggregates millions of user-initiated speed tests from across the country, MTN claimed the top spot with an impressive 37,106 nPoints — a clear lead over Airtel’s 25,614 and Glo’s 20,475. MTN recorded the fastest average download speed at 18.65 Mbps and upload speed of 8.70 Mbps throughout 2025. Its latency performance — a key measure of responsiveness for online tasks like video calls and gaming — remained industry‑leading.

MTN’s dominance wasn’t limited to raw throughput. The operator also led in metrics tracking browsing performance and streaming quality, reporting smoother online experiences even during peak usage hours. Independent metrics from Opensignal’s Nigeria Mobile Network Experience Report further corroborated MTN’s leadership, with the operator topping nearly every speed and reliability category — including overall speed experience, 4G and 5G performance, and network availability.

In addition to speed rankings, global testing specialist Ookla awarded MTN Nigeria the Speedtest Award™ for Best Mobile Network in Nigeria, recognizing the telco’s consistently superior connectivity and customer experience over the past year. This accolade reflects MTN’s investments in network infrastructure and optimization across both urban and rural regions.
